I have a few folders that I compressed into DMG image data. I was able to open most of them so far with no problems until today when I got a Data Corrupted message. First thing I did was to restore the file from an early Time Machine backup however I still got the same message. I then used Disk Utility to Scan Image for Restore..same error message.
Any suggestions? If nothing works would a data recovery service be able to deal with this problem?
An Apple disk image is a file (usually with the .DMG extension), virtual disk like a CD or DVD or even a hard disk, which stores files in a way that act like storage devices. It is very useful for creating system backups, data recovery, software distribution, data encryption, etc.
However, Apple disk images are fairly robust for the most part, as data in the disk images is prone to be deleted, corrupted or lost. Data corruption in a DMG disk image usually occurs while it is being copied or if someone modified it. Even though the Apple disk images themselves are good and mountable, chances are that you are unable to access data in the disk image.
